AMP Series #3 Race

The Atlanta Motorsports Park Series Race 3 was last weekend. DCT Karting prepared the Kosmic to perfect specs. They have hired a new mechanic who was able to dial it in and let me run 52’s in Fridays practice. Not many drivers have done this in KA100 at AMP. Saturday began cloudy and looking like rain. It stayed dry and we went out for practice. It became clear that the leaders in KA Senior would be me, Olivier Piatek, and Gabe Spencer. Qualifying didn't go great. In a 3 lap quali format, it takes one lap to get up to speed so you really have two laps to post your best time. We got stuck in some traffic and were unable to get around. Qualified P5. Gabe and Olivier P1 and P2.

Pre-Final: Good start and made it into the front pack quickly. On the second lap I had contact from Gabe Spencer and was off track. Got back but my position couldn’t be recovered. We made the decision to DNF, pull off early, and save our tires. This would give us an edge over the other karts in the Final.

Final: after the DNF, we started P14. By the 5th lap I was able to climb up to P5. Just couldn’t get around 5th until lap 10. I had the fastest kart but with 2 to go, there simply isnt enough time to get in the mix up front. Piatek and Spencer were running very well. Ended P4.

As I have said before, racing is pure heartbreak most of the time. This just wasnt our day on track. Happens to everyone. We still hold the points lead for the Series but its going to be a strong fight for the remainder of the season for sure.

Silver linings: Motor and kart are the best they’ve ever been. Consistent PR laps in practice. But practice isnt racing. Everything changes. Also, the freshened DCT Trailers and set up is awesome. The drivers lounge trailer was key in the heat. And having a Chillout Systems rig in there is amazing.

Headed to GoPro Friday for Round 4 of their series.
