Season Opener: Race Day 3/26

The ‘22 AMP Championship Series kicked off Saturday 3/26. The big news is we have moved over to the 2022 Kosmic Mercury RR chassis. After a fresh WRS Engine rebuild, we had one quick test day Friday. Saturday was cold and windy but dry and over 125 drivers showed up to race. The God’s of pace shined on us! Both DCT KA 100 Senior karts ( myself and Gabe Spencer #240) had a full second on the field all day. Qualified P1/P2. In pre-Final, we jumped ahead to an 8 second lead by lap 7. But, things went south at the bottom of turn 2. Hard to tell from the replay, but I ended up stuck on the rear bumper of the #240 as we climbed the hill. Lost the lead and finished in 8/9th. Damn. While waiting for finals the AMP Timing System went dark. The team up there tried everything but no dice. Race Control made the decision to hold the Pre-Final results as the points results. Sucks for us. However, they did let us run an 8 lap final with no timing. Starting in P9, I was able to work through the field and claim P1 by lap 4. Did I mention we had the pace? Won the race by a 5 second gap. If we had the full 12 laps, no telling what the gap would have been. But a win is a win and we’ll take it. In points, the lowest two scores of the season are dropped. This will be one of those for us. But, ‘22 is a growth year. We are going to move full to time KA Senior at AMP. We do not expect to win but to learn race craft and develop with a stronger field. Mission accomplished.

The Kosmic with the WRS Engine is amazing. Huge thank you’s to DCT Speedsport and WRS Race Engines. Great to see everyone and get the year going. Saw the usual showcase put on by Raiden Nicol and Leo Oliviera. Kai Mars, Bowen Greene, and Joseph Saddington have some serious competition going on. Alyssa Vascou dominated LO as usual. And the Body Symmetry Shifter Shoot-out is the class to watch. The best kart racing of the day every time. Looking at Zach Frank to continue dominating here. Rylie Platz shows that hard work pays off as she improves in every metric. Lots of new and familiar faces. This community is the best. Let’s do it again soon
