AMP Series Round 4

Coming off a good showing at GoPro, we felt great coming home to Atlanta Motorsports Park for Round 4 in KA100 Sr. We have working on tire break in, testing axle stiffness, and always playing between motors. To be fully prepared, we spent Thursday and Friday testing every option at AMP. Summer in full effect here in the South. Both days approaching 100 degrees. Don’t event want to know the heat index on asphalt and in a drivers suit and helmet….

Race Day: Practicer session showed the set up was dialed. Fastest laps were ours. Qualified P1. PreFinal had us leading the entire race into lap 10. I miscalculated the last turn and gave my buddy Gabe Spencer the opening he needed to pip me at the line. That hurt and I kicked myself for an hour of so. For the final we started P2. I kind of prefer the outside and was 110% committed to winning this race. Took the lead from turn 1 and managed to establish a small lead over P2/P3. But those guys are good and soon enough Gabe was back on my tail. Brandy Estes in P3 was giving time and getting in the mix as well. We fought the entire 12 laps. The #240 passed me 2x but I was able to grab it right back. On the final lap Gabe and I had a little contact but smoothed it out and I headed for the last turn with a 2 kart gap. He closed it in that turn but wasn’t enough to keep me out of P1. Winner winner.

This was easily the best day of driving I have ever had. My coach, crew, and “village” were all over the moon. I knew I drove on a mission and am very proud of the race. Im proud of the other guys for killer drives as well. Brandt seized his chance on lap 12 and almost made it stick. And Gabe Spencer was a total threat the entire day. Got home last night and watched the replay. Wow. Pretty sure my feet still aren’t touching the ground.

The day also saw my buddy Joseph Saddington walk away in his races. Allyssa Vascou fought a coughing motor to hold the lead in LO206 Jr. Newcomer Called Berghoefer made his mark in TaG Rookie. Vincent, Christian, and Adam took podium in KA100 Jr. My coach Leo and good friend Raiden took P2 and P3 in X30. Way to go all. Lets do it again soon !
